As always you can sponsor a tree for $ 100 which will include your unique holiday message on a custom tree tag. We are also maintaining the traditional practice of lining the sidewalks on Broadway, Prospect, and Main Streets with glimmering Christmas trees. This year we plan to conduct the Market on both weekends (Saturday December 5th and Saturday December 12th) giving you even more opportunity to pick up gift and decorative items for the holidays. Last year we introduced a new element to the CCWT which was the craft-focused Christmas Market which took place in Opera House Park.

But, on the plus side, we are pleased that we will again be able to have Gingerbread House making workshops which will culminate with a Contest on Saturday, December 12th. Regretfully we aren’t able to have a Model Train Show in the Library as has been done for the last eleven years.

The good news this year is that we expect to offer this activity twice – once during the day on Saturday December 5th and again a week later on Saturday December 12th. Another popular feature of this iconic event is horse drawn wagon rides up and down Broadway. We do anticipate that they will be able to make a brief tour through town waving and shouting best Christmas wishes as they progress. Claus won’t be able to personally visit with all of our good little boys and girls. By necessity other things will also change this year. By design, we won’t have the crowding that normally occurs when everything happens on the same day. Doing so will allow us all space, time, and distance so that everything is not happening all at once. The primary and overarching change in our event this year is that it will occur over several days – rather than the massive single day event that it has always been. That said, we have also recognized from our first discussions that, for safety’s sake, many of our ‘normal’ events and activities will have to be eliminated, or, at minimum, done differently than in years past. This imperative has guided the thinking of our Christmas Candlelight Walking Tour Committee since we first met back in July. If ever there was a year when we most need a time for feelings of peace, and calm, and generosity this is it. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus…and, just as certainly, Granville will again celebrate the holiday season by observing the iconic Christmas Candlelight Walking Tour – a Granville tradition for 35 years!
